What are the Sea Cadets?

The Sea Cadet Corps is a Nationwide, voluntary, uniformed youth organisation open to young people aged 10-18 years (and with Junior Sections for those of 10 to 12 years) regardless of sex, religion or race and, within the bounds of safety to themselves and others, to those with special needs.

The Aim of the Sea Cadet Corps is to help young people towards responsible adulthood by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct, using a nautical theme based on the customs of the Royal Navy.

The Organisation.

The Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) is made up of more than 400 units around the UK with over 100 containing Marine Cadet Detachments (MCD's). All units are funded partially by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) but each unit is a separate registered charity.

The SCC is run by both Royal Naval/Royal Marine, Sea Cadet and Civilian Staff and the headquarters are based in London. The SCC is overseen by a Royal Naval Commodore named Commodore Laurie Brokenshire RN.
